The RC&D Council’s original
involvement in this project came through the Valley County Commissioners who requested
assistance to help the group establish an at-risk youth shelter. The County
spends considerable funds to care for youth, which through no fault of
their own, are in need of temporary shelter.
Through an eighteen month period
of intensive grant research and grant writing guided by the RC&D Staff
and the group’s Executive Director, adequate funds were obtained to build
a shelter to house up to 12 youth. Full time house parents and family style
living eases troubled youth through this temporary shelter time.
Currently, through training provided
by the RC&D, the Group has established an operating endowment foundation
and continues to improve its operation capability.
