Gem Island Sports Complex
This project is the development
of a 55 acre recreation complex in Emmett. This marathon project started
with an abandoned feedlot and has progressed to having a skateboard park, 2
four-plex ball fields, 2 soccer fields, volleyball and basketball courts, picnic
areas, rose gardens and a fishing pond.
Recently a 1.1 mile paved trail
was added and is a popular walking area for all ages. Located on the
perimeter adjacent to the river, bird nest boxes attract wood ducks, geese,
screech owls, swallows and woodpeckers all visible from the trail. The
trail was funded by Idaho Parks and Recreation, Gem County and the Gem
Recreation District.
Russ Manwaring and Tom Hoppell
check construction of trail paving.
